At Home Nails

Happy Friday! Whooo-hooo! We made it through another week! As you can see by the title of todays blog, I am going to be showing you ways to create ‘At Home Nails.’

Most of us couldn’t get in quick enough to have our acrylic or gel nails removed before we all got stuck at home… or we got them done right before the nail salons closed and BAM! They have now grown out and are eating on our hair and clothes! So let’s learn how to do our nails at home! Hey, you might like this better than going to the nail salon and having them use non-sterile nail equipment and it may be less expensive in the long run?!

LETS REMOVE OUR ACRYLIC OR GEL NAILS FIRST:

  1. Make sure you have PURE ACETONE this will make your life 1,000x easier!
    • I found this on Amazon: It includes the 16oz pure acetone remover plus 10 foil wraps that are pre-cut with cotton inside. All this for $8.76!! Thats a deal if I say so myself!

Now, if you already have pure acetone, foil and cotton rolls at home, then you’re ready to get started!

2. Cut the foil into 10 pieces big enough to wrap around your nails and tear apart 5 cotton rolls. This will then make 10 cotton rolls and you’ll have 10 pieces of foil.

3. Soak the cotton rolls with pure acetone, place it in the foil and wrap it around your nail. Once you get to your other hand, it may get tricker trying to wrap because your first hand has foil on the nails. You may want to ask one of your family members to help.

4. Once all your nails are wrapped in foil, set a timer on your phone and leave it set for 20 minutes. This would be a good time to just sit, relax and watch the next episode of Tiger King. LOL

5. Ok all you cool cats and kittens… lets take our cuticle tool and start removing the lifted nail polish by using the curved end and scraping the polish off our nail.

If you do not have the cuticle tools, here is a great set to get your nails back in shape! Found on Amazon for $8.99!

6. Now that our nails are free from ‘most’ of the polish, I use a nail buffer to smooth the nails. Again, if you do not have this at home you can find it on Amazon for $12.98! This is the buffer I use and It comes with 10 of them which I love because I go through these often. I like to do my nails about every other week or two weeks.

7. Once you have removed the nail polish with the cuticle tool, pushed back your cuticles and buffed them to make them smooth you are officially READY to paint! YAY!

LETS PAINT:

  1. Start with a base coat, I always go in with this nail bonder. I’ve never had better luck! This helps my polish stick to the nail and stay! This can be purchased through Amazon for $9.94

2. Go in with your favorite color or brand of polish. OPI is my favorite brand! I honestly believe my nail polish has not been smudging or coming off so easily because I go in with this first. But, if you have a favorite nail polish brand you use then great!! Go for it!

3. After you’ve applied your first coat, let it dry for about 1-2 minutes then go in with a second coat. If you are not pleased with the shade yet then just keep going until desired. I usually go in with 2 coats.

4. After letting your nails dry 1-2 minutes you can go in with a top coat by Orly Sec ‘N Dry. Found on Amazon for $12. This is my all time favorite top coat because it drys so quickly and there is no smudge! No joke this will dry the polish completely within a couple minutes!!

5. Ladies and Gents we are almost done with our beautiful at home nails!! The very last step I go in with is Cuticle Oil. If you viewed my blog about ’10 Healthy Beauty Tips’ then you already know this is my favorite!! Can be found on Amazon for $10.25. This bottle comes in 2 scents but I love the milk & honey one! The bottle will seriously last you for YEARS. Great find with a great price for how much you get!

6. If you were a little messy with the polish and some of it got onto your nails, don’t worry. We can fix this! Grab your pure acetone and a cotton tip and very gently go along the edge of the skin to remove any excess polish. It will also come off in the shower if you decide that way is easier!

I used to do at home gel nails with the light and the polishes but it is honestly such a process to do at home (I can understand why we all go to the nail salons! LOL) When it’s time and you want to remove the gel polish you have to go through the process with the pure acetone, foil and cotton rolls. Then scrape it all off and so on… hence why I don’t do gel anymore. Not to mention how terrible it is for your nails. Although they look quite nice!!

So using the process stated above, I have found the simplest and easiest way to get beautiful at home nails without going through the process of using acrylic or gel. I hope you enjoyed these step-by-step instructions and it helps!

Times are tough right now but if we all stay home and stick to it, the faster we will be able to go see our friends, family, have date nights, go to movies, travel, etc! Stay safe and stay healthy! Thanks for reading!! 🙂
