Top 5 Pregnancy Tips

Hey girl! Are you pregnant? If so, congratulations!! I’m so happy for you!

Did you ever expect to go through ALL these changes when getting pregnant? Did anyone ever tell you how your body would change? Your thought process? Your emotions? Your physical appearance.. and i’m not just talking about your belly.

I had no idea my body would change so much, features that you don’t expect to change. Don’t get me wrong, creating and carrying a baby is the most beautiful experience but I was just thrown off of the fact that my belly was growing hair? Like, lots of hair! My face looked drained out and I had pigmentation on some parts of my face (thankfully it only lasted the first many months of pregnancy, then I got that pregnancy glow they all talk about.)

Are you in your first or second trimester? Or even your third? Are you struggling with morning sickness? AKA alllll day nausea like myself? Yup. You’ve came to the right place. Here are a few key things that helped me during pregnancy.

REST: Make sure you are getting plenty of sleep, trust me during the last half of pregnancy you will be uncomfortable no matter what you do, trying to sleep will be difficult. I remember I couldn’t get really any sleep because my baby girl was always kicking my right side (if you didn’t know this, now you do– it is the side you have to sleep on during pregnancy!) I recommend getting a pregnancy pillow asap! This is a great one! Sleep will be a whole other story when your baby comes and hopefully your significant other/partner will help because doing it by yourself is draining postpartum! Especially if you are breast-feeding, you are up every 2-3 hours to either feed or pump! We found it is key to take shifts during the night.. I could make a whole other blog post about postpartum if you would like! Just comment below.

HYDRATION: drink. water. I can’t stress this enough! Drinking water is key to staying hydrated! Drinking your body weight is an easy way of remembering how much to drink. I bought a 64oz water bottle with time stamps (click here) to make sure I was getting enough water each day. It has a handle on it, a sweat protectant and is available in a ton of colors! Other sources of hydration I would recommend are coconut water, liquid IV (use code: OLIVIA.WADDEN for free shipping + 25% off), gatorade and pedialyte (they also have popsicles!)

SNACKS: Anything cold or light helped me with my nausea! Yogurt, cereal, popsicles, ice cream, apple sauce, peaches, lozenges, saltine crackers, and granola. If you’re anything like me though, you will still struggle with getting sick. Some days it didn’t matter if I ate small portions, light or cold food, etc — I still found myself running to the bathroom multiple times a day. I even lost weight! I wouldn’t wish morning sickness upon anyone!

EXERCISE: Light exercise is all I could do because I felt so nauseous! Staying active is key to having a healthy pregnancy, they have even linked it to having an easier labor and delivery. Even if you can’t manage to do a 10-15 minute workout, walking will have a big impact on your pregnancy. Grabbing a yoga ball and doing daily exercises during the last trimester of your pregnancy is KEY! It will also help engage baby in your pelvis towards the end of your third trimester for delivery… heck it may induce labor! Check out Bridget Teyler on YouTube! She is a birth doula and gives really great advice and tons of tips during your pregnancy! I learned ALOT from her that helped not only during my pregnancy but during labor and delivery as well!

SUNLIGHT: Sooo everyone is different but for some reason sunlight helped my nausea SO much. Getting the fresh air, having some breeze touch my face and soaking in the vitamin D made my body feel alive!
