Hey girl! Are you pregnant or postpartum? Are you wanting to know what will not only help your body heal but ease the process? I have a list of items you’ll wish you had for postpartum and why you will want it!
So, I know many women use Derma-blast spray, Tucks, or use the hospital pads/underwear but the hospital where I gave birth (University of Iowa) did not have the best pads or mesh underwear. The pads were SO ginormous and the underwear was literally fishnet… lets just say if you are trying to wear something light colored after pushing a baby out of you– DON’T. I had a light colored pair of sweatpants and bled right through because the pads they gave me didn’t stick on the terrible fishnet underwear. I was not pleased.. I then remembered I had brought my FridaMom Recovering Kit with me at the hospital and it had THE BEST underwear in it. The underwear is a boy short type so it went partially down my thigh and up over my belly button and helped suck everything in if you know what I mean! The hospital sent me home with Derma-blast spray and Tucks but not ONCE did I use them because I had everything I needed from FridaMom. I’m telling you the kit is amazing and you need to add it to your registry! Highly recommend it!
To shop – click on the bold title!
- FridaMom Recovering Kit – It has everything you will need and more! From ice pack pads, cooling pad liners, perineal healing foam, to the best underwear! It even has a caddy for you to keep it organized on top of your toilet!
- FridaMom Peri Bottle – This unfortunately is not apart of the recovery kit but it is an absolute must-have! The spray bottle is angled so you don’t have to awkwardly try to do it yourself. I recommend filling it up with warm water and spraying it as you’re going to the bathroom, to help with the burn.
- Donut – Ask your hospital for a ‘donut’ to sit on because the car ride home and sitting on the couch is NOT fun! It will ease your bottom and you’ll be sooo thankful!
- A Good Deodorant – Okkk weird but you better find a good deodorant because postpartum BO is real! Especially is you are BF. I use Native and love it. It’s an all natural deodorant and they have amazing scents!
- Nipple Balm – If you’re EBF or pumping, you’ll want this! I haven’t had any cracking or bleeding and I promise you I would if I didn’t use this organic nipple balm. I use it every time I feed or pump, even post!
- Nipple Shield – So I got a shield at my daughter’s 3-day wellness check-up. We had a lactation consultant come in and show use a few thing and one being a nipple shield. Not only did it save my nipple from hurting but it also helped her suck. I personally think it also helped with her bottle use. (I pump and make a couple bottles a day so her Dad can also feed her if I’m busy!) I don’t use the shield every time because she has a great latch but if my nipples are sore, it helps tremendously!
- On-The-Go Breast Pump / Haakaa – If you are in search of a wearable electric breast pump that is also affordable, look no further! I swear by the Momcozy S9 breast pumps!! I originally bought the Spectra pump and it was NOT reasonable. Yes, it has a battery so you aren’t stuck to the wall but its a big machine and I never bought a pumping bra to place the flanges in to be hands free. It just didn’t make sense to me since I couldn’t be ‘on-the-go’ with the massive machine its connected to! Not only that but I never got much milk out of it and it could’ve been the flanges itself. When I decided to look into a wearable breast pump and ordered the Momcozy brand, I fell in love! I am now able to do whatever I want (driving, grocery shopping, dishes, laundry, playing with Isla, etc) and I am also producing way more milk than I did with my Spectra! I am also adding the Haaka to this because if you are EBF than you will want this– you place it on the opposite breast when feeding and it catches your let down for you! I’m not kidding when I tell you, I’ve caught 3oz of milk just by placing my Haaka on. Its also an easy way to build you freezer stash!!
- Nursing Bras – I have found you will want quite a few different nursing bras.. say goodbye to your sexy bras because when I tell you, you won’t touch them in months… I am not kidding! These are some of my favorite brands from Amazon and they are affordable!
- Robes / Nightgown – Say hello to your new wardrobe! I wear a robe every.single.day because of how convenient it is for feeding or pumping! It makes Mom life 1000x easier. Don’t get me wrong, I will wear regular clothes but I am not kidding when I say you can catch yourself finding spit up on them. I simply just find it easier to wear a robe for most of my day… just find you a sexy one! I’d also recommend having a few of them, I personally have four that I switch back and forth from.
- Heating Pad – This is an item you will want to use not only at the hospital recovering but at home, too. I had the WORST postpartum cramps of my life! I seriously felt like I was having contractions again and if I didn’t turn my heating pad on and use it within minutes, I would be to my knees in pain. The good thing is that they do go away in a few days but if you are BF then you can expect them to stick around for the first week. For some odd reason your body releases a hormone, Oxytocin when you start to BF baby and that is what causes those cramps to come! The hormones release to help shrink your uterus back to normal.
I hope these 10 recommendations help or helped you postpartum! I wish you the best of luck bringing this beautiful baby girl or boy into the world and enjoying every minute!! They truly do grow up so quickly! My baby girl is three months old now and I can’t believe how the time is flying by!
